Kraut dub post-punk opus. Pinnacle of Lydon's PiL "project". Levene and Wobble cover themselves in glory: all angular, spiky guitar and deep roots bass throb. A revolving stool of various metronomic drummers adding to general Can meets King Tubby down the death disco vibe.
...still sounds like nothing else; absurdly, it was often mocked at the time by people for whom The UK Subs were enough.

This is a difficult thing to assess, but I think this might just be my favourite album of all time.
Between this and Flowers of Romance (which I prefer slightly more) you have two of the best albums of all time. Good post.
I've still got this on vinyl, the tins looks dull and slightly rusty, but they still play, well the vinyl does. many thanks for this, and yes I thing System is slightly betterer too. Paul
Has anyone seen Wobble and Levene's Metal Box in Dub shows? They are the real PiL. Check out the You Tube videos from Japan and the UK. They still sound awesome. Levene is recording a follow up to Flowers and Commercial Zone. He's very active on Twitter as is Wobble if anyone's interested...
