Come Write Me Down - The Copper Family

Rough, raw and rare old collection of standards by venerable Copper Family old guard. Can you have too many versions of Spencer the Rover? Not when sung like this.

Two of them look like Samuel Beckett.

And the other two look like Margaret Beckett.

Not everyone's jug of ale by any means, but there's no doubting that this is a fine anthology and a testament to the power of English plainsong. Totally authentic and enduring, and the basis of so much of what many of us grew up thinking was folk. And best of all, no Norma bleedin' Waterson, so what more can you ask for?

Oh and you can have good fun making up your own words to some of the songs.

All together now, "don't put your finger in your ear, Mrs Waterson".

Or to put it another way, "got any 'awkwind, butt?"

Ha, I guessed who this was by the alias, then if further proof needed, the anti-Norma jibe & 'awkwind plug clinched it.

Well, I may have left a small trail of breadcrumbs back there, pardner...
