Dear Companion - Meg Baird [2007]

Quietly magnificent. From opening seconds, settle in to the vocal performance and prepare to remain entranced for the duration. Perfectly balanced acoustic guitar and occasional multi-tracked vocal harmonies apply fresh magic on this collection of traditional songs and folk standards. An autoharp here, a couple of Baird orginals there. Witchy etherealness of her work with Greg Weeks' Espers exchanged for natural simplicity, heart and soul. And perhaps the most satisfying version of Barbara Allen (The Cruelty of Barbary Allen) you are likely to hear.  Not to be missed.
