Nosferatu - Werner Herzog & Popol Vuh



Making visible what would have remained mysterious and forever hidden in the images. If there's a more chilling opening sequence to a film, I'd like to hear from you.

Fair enough but the opening credits are the best part of the film. Herzog's obsession with recreating Murnau's original scenes made for a rather stilted end result. By happy coincedence Fitzcarraldo is being screened on BBC4 this evening - Herzog's finest hour hour

I know what you mean. I think it's got a lot to do with fact that it's in colour and so misses the expressionist light and shadows thing.

Remains a favourite of the critorati however. And is considered more a (adopt US faux French accent) "homage" than a copy.
