Vindicator [plus] - Arthur Lee

A long way from the frazzled, fragile beauty of Forever Changes, this slab of hard rock n' blues, with a soulful edge, confirms Lee was nothing if not a rocker at heart. All songs are strong and guitars invariably cranked up to the max. Churls might demur at the obvious debt to Cry of Love era Hendrix (that's First Rays of the New Rising Sun to you youngsters), and churls they'd be.

For increased pleasure, y brawd adds a clutch of winning acoustic versions culled from earlier Vindicator sessions and recently released on the uneven Love Lost.

Poor old Arthur couldn't give this album away when it was first released - I recall Y Brawd picking up a copy in a second hand record shop (remember them?) in the 1990s - our host was at the time blissfully unaware that it was rarer than rocking horse droppings - even with the bottom having well and truly fallen out of the collectable vinyl market I note that mint copies still fetch about 100 euros or so on t'internet - I wonder if it's still under his bed

I though you were going to say that when this first came out Arthur couldn't even get arrested. Only in a manner of speaking, eh? It's funny, but you never see this in any of those 100 Best Album Cover of All-time features that crop up from time to time.

Bought it around 1985, 20P if memory serves. It's now under WC's bed or at least in the space where he keeps junk and various stuff purloined from y brawd's hometown detritus. Far from pristine though.
